Decor, Themes and Props: Helpful Hints

Why use a theme? Themes provide interest and romanticism to your wedding. Planning is also incredibly efficient when you have a theme to your wedding. Can you can coordinate colors, cake design, floral arrangements, stationary and music to a theme, which makes organizing your décor a breeze.

How is a theme chosen? Every couple has a memory or activity that they love to do with just each other. These special interests should be used as the foundation of your event. If you love to take picnics together, an outdoor wedding in the park may be the way to go. If you love the watching movies together, perhaps an evening wedding stylized after a 1940’s classic is the way to go. Whatever theme you chose, it should reflect your personality as a couple.

Decorating tips for theme events. Consider three main areas of focus when decorating for your wedding...

First, focus on the ceremony site where you will be performing your “I do’s.” Use fabric, flowers, lanterns, candles and or any other type of dramatic prop to highlight your ceremony site. Focus heavily on the area where you will be standing, and always remember to light this area with extra lighting. You’ll notice that a good majority of your photographs and video will focus on this area so be sure you decorate it well.

The second area to focus on is the bridal table at the reception. When choosing decorations for your table pieces, try to incorporate props at different heights. Use some low-lying table decorations, and accent them with dramatic tall items.

The third area to draw attention to is the cake table. Cakes are work of art in and of themselves, but it is very important to highlight the detail of its design.  Always arrange extra lighting for the cake table. Not only does this lighting highlight the cake, but it also creates a romantic centerpiece for the room.

Consider one of these themes for your wedding.

• Tuscan •  Paris • 1940’s • Winter wonderland • Fairytale • Medieval • Tropical • International themes •     Vineyard • Seasonal
